Cairo: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, that the government remains committed to expanding electricity production from all sources, particularly renewable energy, as part of efforts to meet growing development and consumption needs while increasing the share of clean energy in the national energy mix. Madbouly’s remarks came during a meeting with Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat at the Cabinet headquarters in the New Administrative Capital. During the meeting, Esmat briefed the prime minister on the outcomes of the first session of the newly established Executive Authority for Nuclear Power Plant Projects.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the authority was created to oversee all phases of the construction and trial operation of nuclear power plants, in accordance with the highest international standards of nuclear safety, quality, and transparency. Esmat said the new body is part of Egypt’s effort to establish a strong institutional framework to manage its peaceful nuclear energy program in coordination with national and international stakeholders.
He added that this step is expected to enhance national capacity in the peaceful use of nuclear technology. The minister also reviewed plans to support scientific and research institutions affiliated with his ministry. He pointed to an integrated cooperation framework among Egypt’s nuclear bodies-including the Atomic Energy Authority, Nuclear Materials Authority, and the Nuclear Projects Oversight Authority-to unify efforts and localize advanced technologies through applied research.
