PM Promotes Private Sector as Dar Al Salam Oncology Hospital Expands

Cairo: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said on Saturday 10/1/2026 the government is prioritizing private sector participation in healthcare to help develop services for citizens. Madbouly toured several health facilities in Cairo and Giza, starting with Dar Al Salam Oncology Hospital (formerly Hermel), where he inspected ongoing upgrades and medical services. Deputy Premier and Health and Population Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar said that the hospital now operates under a partnership with France’s Gustave Roussy Institute, bringing international oncology protocols to Egypt.

According to State Information Service Egypt, since June 1, 2025, the hospital has handled roughly 37,000 state-funded cases, 580 health insurance patients, 100 bone marrow transplants, and performed more than 1,100 surgeries. Outpatient visits reached 50,500, while chemotherapy treatments totaled over 13,500, and intensive care cases numbered 372. The hospital has gradually increased service provision to 24,000 monthly by November 2025.

Abdel Ghaffar said multidisciplinary committees and extended clinic and pharmacy hours have reduced patient waiting times and improved care quality. Staff training is ongoing, with over 1,490 trainees participating in more than 65 programs, including overseas placements at Gustave Roussy.

Madbouly also reviewed plans for the hospital’s expansion, which includes upgrading the existing 129-bed facility and constructing a new 108-bed building. He emphasized adherence to timelines to ensure uninterrupted services while development continues. During an unplanned visit to the current hospital building, Madbouly spoke with patients, who reported satisfaction with the improved services and care.
