Cairo: Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly attended the signing of two cooperation protocols at the government headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, aimed at auditing and unifying the figures for Egyptian exports and imports.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the protocols were signed between national data-issuing entities to ensure consistency, regulate and improve the quality of official data, and align with international developments in calculating macroeconomic indicators. These initiatives stem from the work of committees formed by Prime Ministerial Decrees No. (1887) of 2023 and No. (3610) of 2024, which focus on unifying Egyptian export and import data.
The committees are chaired by the Ministry of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, with participation from the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade, represented by the General Organization for Export and Import Control; the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources; the Central Bank of Egypt; the Ministry of Finance, represented by the Customs Authority; and CAPMAS as the rapporteur.
Prime Minister Madbouly highlighted the strategic importance of these protocols in shifting toward tradable sectors with high added value, expanding the national export base, enhancing confidence in exports, and facilitating global market access. He emphasized that a unified information base for exports and imports will enhance macroeconomic stability, improve policy predictability, and create a more resilient economy, thereby boosting investor confidence and increasing foreign currency inflows.
Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, explained that the protocols adhere to the unified statistical classification of export and import data issued by international bodies. This involves ensuring the accuracy and integration of statistical information and data to support decision-making by coordinating efforts among government entities involved in foreign trade data issuance and subjecting them to standardized auditing processes.
The Minister further stressed that the protocols align with the national narrative for economic development and Egypt Vision 2030, which focuses on data production and availability. She emphasized the need for a technical and regulatory environment that ensures data unification and periodic auditing, guaranteeing data quality sustainability and flow through an integrated electronic system, thereby supporting informed decision-making.
