Cairo: The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, engaged in a phone conversation with his Greek counterpart, Minister of Foreign Affairs George Gerapetritis, to explore avenues for enhancing strategic relations between Egypt and Greece and to deliberate on regional developments.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, revealed that both ministers commended the longstanding and robust relations between their countries. They highlighted the significant progress made in bilateral ties, particularly after the announcement of a Strategic Partnership in May 2025. Minister Abdelatty expressed his desire to further reinforce economic, trade, and investment cooperation and to explore new areas for collaboration.
The conversation also addressed the situation in the Gaza Strip, where Minister Abdelatty emphasized the importance of implementing the next phase of the U.S. President's plan. He noted Egypt's support for the Board of Peace and reiterated the country's full backing for the National Committee for the Administration of the Gaza Strip. This committee is seen as a transitional mechanism to manage daily affairs and facilitate the return of the Palestinian Authority.
Moreover, the Egyptian Foreign Minister highlighted the necessity of deploying an international stabilization force to monitor the ceasefire and ensure the continued delivery of humanitarian aid. He also discussed preparations for the recovery and reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.
In addition, Minister Abdelatty updated his Greek counterpart on developments in Sudan and Egypt's efforts within the Quad mechanism. He stressed the urgency of establishing a humanitarian truce leading to a comprehensive ceasefire and a political process owned by Sudanese stakeholders. The need for safe humanitarian corridors and unimpeded delivery of aid to Sudan was also underscored.
Both ministers acknowledged the significance of de-escalation in the region, with Minister Abdelatty affirming Egypt's commitment to mitigating tensions and promoting diplomatic solutions. He reiterated Egypt's ongoing efforts to reach a consensual resolution to the Iranian nuclear issue, addressing the concerns of all involved parties to support regional and global security and stability.
