Cairo: Minister of Local Development and Environment Manal Awad Saturday, 28/3/2026, followed up on the commencement of Phase II of the Ataba district development project in Cairo, in line with presidential directives and the state’s strategic plan to modernize urban markets and upgrade national infrastructure. The minister reviewed a report submitted by Head of the Strategic Management and Local Development Sector Saeed Helmy Abdel Khaleq, detailing the ongoing operations in the historic commercial hub.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the project is part of the Ministry of Local Development and Environment’s investment plan, fully funded by the Ministry to support vital, high-density commercial zones. The project is executed in close coordination with the Cairo Governorate and the National Organization for Urban Harmony.
The report highlighted that the current phase prioritizes the execution of utility network upgrades, serving as the foundational pillar for comprehensive urban rehabilitation. All executive agencies within the Cairo Governorate are coordinating to ensure seamless integration between project components, preventing operational overlaps and ensuring adherence to approved technical standards, the report read.
