Cairo: Apache Corporation, in collaboration with the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), has unveiled a new natural gas discovery in Egypt's Western Desert. This follows the successful drilling of the exploratory well SKAL-1X in the South Kalabsha area.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the Ministry of Petroleum released a statement on March 24, 2026, detailing that initial well test results indicate the well can produce 26 million cubic feet of natural gas per day, along with 2,700 barrels of condensates. This discovery marks a significant milestone in the ongoing exploration efforts in the region.
The ministry highlighted that this achievement is a direct result of the incentives and measures it has implemented to stimulate foreign investment in the sector. These efforts have encouraged Apache to expand its exploration and research activities, particularly in areas adjacent to its existing concessions.
The discovery's proximity to Apache's current operational areas enhances its economic feasibility, as it allows for cost-effective development by utilizing existing infrastructure and production facilities. This strategic advantage is expected to bolster the efficiency and profitability of gas production in the region.
