Cairo: Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities Randa El-Menshawy chaired a meeting to follow up on efforts to localize the manufacturing of equipment used in drinking water and wastewater projects, with the participation of senior ministry officials.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the Minister emphasized the importance of expanding local production to reduce imports, cut costs, improve operational efficiency, and support the national economy, in line with the state's industrial localization strategy. Officials reviewed ongoing coordination with government entities and international partners to transfer expertise, establish local factories, and meet growing demand, while exploring export opportunities to African and Arab markets.
The meeting also addressed future equipment needs for projects over the next five years, updates to technical standards, and requirements for desalination plants under Egypt's 2050 strategy. The Minister called for regular progress monitoring and clear performance indicators to ensure quality, efficiency, and the successful implementation of water and sanitation projects nationwide.
