Cairo: 10th of Ramadan City: Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem emphasized the ministry's commitment to supporting national factories to increase the local component ratio and improve the efficiency of local suppliers. This initiative aims to enhance the quality of Egyptian products and boost their competitiveness in international markets.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the minister's remarks came during an inspection tour of two engineering and food industry factories in 10th of Ramadan City. This tour, conducted on Thursday 19/2/2026, was the minister's first field visit to factories and industrial zones. The purpose was to review production processes and support plans to increase local content and strengthen the global standing of Egyptian products.
The minister began his tour at the Hitachi Energy factory, which specializes in dry-type and oil transformers. The facility, spanning 26,200 square meters, boasts an annual production capacity of 5,000 transformers with a local component ratio of 54%. Notably, 40% of its production is exported to nine countries in Africa and the Gulf region, providing 240 job opportunities. The factory's officials provided a historical overview of the company, highlighting its establishment in Egypt in 1998 as the first global transformer manufacturer in the local market. The 10th of Ramadan facility is the sole plant in Africa and the Middle East, serving as an industrial and export hub for the region.
During the visit, the minister was briefed on the factory's application of full automation across all manufacturing stages, which minimizes human intervention and boosts productivity and operational safety. He also reviewed plans to implement real-time remote monitoring and control systems.
The minister concluded his tour at Arma Group's edible oil factories, which occupy an area of 225,000 square meters with a capital investment of EGP 3 billion. The factories have an annual production capacity of 750,000 tons, with approximately 15% of the output exported to markets in the Gulf, Arab countries, Africa, and Europe, providing 4,500 job opportunities. The minister inspected various stages of oil refining, packaging manufacturing, and filling processes. Additionally, he toured a mini exhibition of the company's products and was informed about the group's manufacturing capabilities and its contribution to meeting local market demands and boosting exports.
