Higher Education Minister and French Ambassador Discuss New French University Campus in Egypt

Cairo: Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Abdelaziz Konsowa, affirmed on Monday, March 2, 2026, the strength of Egyptian-French relations across various fields, particularly in higher education, scientific research, innovation, and technology. This came during his meeting with Eric Chevalier, the French Ambassador in Cairo, and his accompanying delegation, in the presence of Monir Fakhry Abdel Nour, President of UFE's Board of Trustees, and Mohamed Roshdy, President of the University, to follow up on developments regarding the new campus project. The meeting was held at the ministry's headquarters in the New Administrative Capital.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Konsowa explained that the French National University project enjoys full support from the Egyptian state and aims to become a distinguished academic and research institution, as well as an advanced model of smart, next-generation universities, in line with the country's vision to develop the higher education system according to the latest international standards. The minister emphasized the ministry's commitment to implementing the project with the highest levels of quality and efficiency, reflecting the strength of bilateral relations between Egypt and France.

He noted that the project receives attention and support from the political leadership in both countries and serves as a successful model of international academic cooperation. Konsowa added that collaboration between Egyptian universities and their French counterparts is vital in academic and research fields, as well as in the joint Technology Park, which aims to serve as a platform for transforming research outcomes and innovative ideas from researchers and students into industrial and economic applications. This includes supporting startups, transferring and localizing technology, and strengthening partnerships with the industrial sector.

For his part, Chevalier expressed France's appreciation for Egypt's ongoing efforts to develop its higher education and research system, affirming France's commitment to enhancing its partnership with Egypt, particularly through the French University, which serves as a platform for knowledge exchange, expertise transfer, and as a gateway for bringing the French educational experience to the African continent. During the meeting, the current progress of construction works at the new campus was reviewed, including a detailed presentation on completion rates and implementation schedules, which are proceeding according to the planned timelines, with an emphasis on adherence to quality standards at all stages of execution.

The two sides also discussed ways to support the project to enhance the university's position as a leading academic and research institution, leveraging the latest digital and technological systems and providing a modern educational environment that fosters innovation and scientific research. At the end of the meeting, both parties agreed to continue coordination and consultation to advance the project, reinforcing Egypt's position as a regional hub for higher education and research, and reflecting the depth of Egyptian-French relations.
