Alexandria: Coastal city Alexandria was hit on Saturday 21/3/2026 by moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by dense low clouds, coinciding with the seasonal storm known as the 'Great Sun Storm.'According to State Information Service Egypt, despite the adverse weather conditions, cargo handling and container operations at Alexandria Port proceeded normally and without interruption. Governor of Alexandria Ayman Attia ordered a state of emergency across all service sectors and utilities, directing district heads to remain on the ground to address any rainwater accumulations. He also confirmed that the central operations room is functioning around the clock to receive citizens' reports.Water drainage vehicles and sanitation equipment were deployed, particularly in flood-prone areas, to remove accumulated rainwater and facilitate traffic flow. Meanwhile, Chairman of the Alexandria Port Authority Ehab Salah directed maritime services and the port's operations center to increase their level of preparedness and respond promptly to any distress signals from ships, ensuring the safety of navigation, vessels, and lives.Traffic services were also reinforced by Alexandria's security directorate to maintain smooth traffic flow and prevent congestion. Alexandria is currently experiencing the 'Great Sun Storm,' which is expected to last for two days and is typically accompanied by winds.
