Health Ministry and WHO Experts Convene to Enhance Egypt’s Public Health System

Cairo: The Ministry of Health and Population recently convened a meeting with the Independent Expert Oversight Advisory Committee (IEOAC), which provides technical advice to the executive board of the World Health Organization (WHO). This meeting was part of the committee's official visit to Egypt, aimed at reviewing the country's national efforts to bolster its public health system.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Health Ministry Spokesman Hossam Abdel Ghaffar reported that the meeting underscored Egypt's substantial achievements in eradicating several infectious diseases, including polio, malaria, hepatitis B, and measles. The discussions also focused on the expansion of preventive healthcare and early detection programs for chronic diseases, under various presidential initiatives. These initiatives have been recognized as a leading model for advancing primary healthcare.

Furthermore, Abdel Ghaffar noted that the committee praised the comprehensive range of preventive, diagnostic, and free treatment services available to citizens. The meeting also included discussions about plans for a field visit to one of the country's medical centers to further evaluate these services.

In addition, Deputy Minister of Health and Population Amr Kandil highlighted the robust strategic partnership between the Health Ministry and the WHO. He emphasized the importance of continued collaboration in areas such as epidemic preparedness, disease prevention, and capacity-building, all of which are essential to achieving the objectives of Egypt's National Health Strategy and Vision 2030.
