Cairo: Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar reviewed the draft general budget of the General Authority for Health Insurance (GAHI) for the fiscal year 2026-2027 during a meeting held at the Health Ministry's headquarters.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the review took place on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, during the 214th meeting of the GAHI, chaired by Minister Abdel Ghaffar. The meeting was attended by Deputy Health Minister Amr Kandil, head of the Egyptian Medical Syndicate Osama Abdel Hay, and several senior officials from the Health Ministry, relevant ministries, and professional syndicates.
The meeting saw the approval of the minutes from the previous meeting, which endorsed the budget and reviewed the developments in the Authority's budgets over recent years, stated Health Ministry Spokesman Hossam Abdel Ghaffar. The discussions also included mechanisms to support the budget and ensure financial sustainability, aiming to guarantee sound financial governance and enhance the quality of medical services offered to the public.
Health Minister Abdel Ghaffar directed a comprehensive actuarial study to assess future financial obligations and maintain fiscal balance. Chairman of the GAHI Ahmed Mostafa presented the authority's 2025 budget and the proposed 2026-2027 budget, which indicates a 7.7 percent increase.
Additionally, the meeting addressed plans to improve conditions for medical teams and staff working in GAHI clinics and hospitals. The health minister also directed efforts to enhance services for pensioners at the authority's clinics to ensure better care for vulnerable groups.
