Health Minister and Albanian President Explore Health Cooperation Opportunities


Cairo: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar emphasized the significance of exchanging expertise and successful experiences with Albania as a fundamental element for improving healthcare services and achieving shared health security. He highlighted Egypt’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Albania in various areas, including medical staff training, digital healthcare transformation, health policy, and pharmaceutical manufacturing.

According to State Information Service Egypt, this discussion took place during Abdel Ghaffar’s meeting with Albanian President Bajram Begaj. The meeting aimed to explore ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in the health sector, with the presence of Albanian Ambassador to Egypt Sami Shiba. Abdel Ghaffar welcomed President Begaj and reiterated the ministry’s dedication to finalizing a memorandum of understanding between the two countries’ health ministries promptly.

The proposed agreement is expected to facilitate joint execut
ive programs that will benefit both nations and further solidify Egyptian-Albanian relations in the health sector. Abdel Ghaffar also detailed the ministry’s efforts in addressing the Palestinian crisis, which included treating the injured from Gaza and providing urgent medical services in Egyptian hospitals. He highlighted Egypt’s prompt response to the crisis by declaring a state of emergency across all health facilities and reinforcing the medical evacuation system.

President Begaj expressed his appreciation for Egypt’s expertise in healthcare and pharmaceuticals, viewing cooperation with Egypt as strategically important for Albania. He emphasized the potential for a sustainable health partnership focused on collaboration and knowledge exchange, especially in training programs and health insurance system development. Begaj also commended Egypt’s recent advancements in the health sector.

Health Ministry Spokesman Hossam Abdel Ghaffar stated that the meeting covered cooperation in combating diseases and le
veraging Egypt’s experience with the Universal Health Insurance System. Discussions also included the digital transformation of medical services, training programs for Albanian medical staff, and collaboration in vaccine manufacturing and pharmaceutical industry localization.

Both parties agreed on the necessity of forming a joint working group to oversee the implementation of agreements and activate cooperation programs in areas such as health emergencies, public health, primary care, and scientific research. Abdel Ghaffar emphasized that the meeting aligns with the political leadership’s directives to strengthen international health partnerships, aiming to enhance healthcare quality and promote sustainable development in both countries.
