Cairo: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar affirmed Egypt’s commitment to its pivotal role in supporting African health cooperation and strengthening regional integration to enhance the readiness of health systems to face crises, ensuring that African peoples have access to safe and sustainable health services.
According to State Information Service Egypt, this declaration was made during a meeting between Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar and Director-General of the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa-CDC), Jean Kaseya. The meeting aimed to bolster African health partnerships and discussed ways to enhance joint cooperation between the Ministry of Health and Africa CDC to advance public health in Egypt and other African countries.
The minister emphasized the importance of deepening partnerships with Africa CDC to support health security on the continent. This involves strengthening joint action, exchanging expertise, and developing rapid response mechanisms to address emerging health challenges.
The ministry’s official spokesperson, Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, noted that the meeting also addressed Egypt’s hosting of the Northern Africa regional Coordination Center (RCC). This center focuses on capacity building for epidemic prevention and strengthening surveillance and health response systems among member states. He highlighted Egypt’s preparedness to activate the center, leveraging its advanced infrastructure and global expertise.
Hossam Abdel Ghaffar further mentioned that Egypt is committed to supporting African countries by providing medical assistance and essential supplies. He stressed the importance of coordinating these efforts with Africa CDC’s priorities to maximize impact, particularly in the areas of vaccines and emergency supplies, reflecting Egypt’s dedication to African solidarity and the promotion of public health across the continent.
