Foreign Minister Calls for International Stability Force to Monitor Gaza Ceasefire

New york: Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, during his meeting with UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper in New York, emphasized the urgency of deploying an international stability force to monitor the Gaza ceasefire, continuing humanitarian and relief aid to the Gaza Strip, and preparing for the early recovery phase and reconstruction.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting was part of regular consultations aimed at enhancing bilateral relations and exchanging views on regional developments. Abdelatty briefed Cooper on the latest developments in Gaza, stressing the need to implement the second phase of the US President's plan. He also reaffirmed Egypt's support for the Peace Board.

Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's full support for the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of maintaining the territorial unity of Palestine, rejecting any attempts to separate Gaza from the West Bank, divide Gaza, or implement any measures that undermine efforts to reach a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian cause, particularly the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem (Al Quds) as its capital.

In this context, he condemned the recent Israeli decisions in the West Bank and the ongoing expansion of settlements. Minister Abdelatty also stressed the importance of continuing to build on the progress in bilateral relations between the two countries in various political, economic, and trade sectors.

He highlighted the significance of holding a high-level economic event that would bring together major British companies to contribute to increasing British investments, particularly with the improved investment climate in Egypt and the economic and structural reforms implemented in recent years.

The two ministers exchanged views on a number of regional issues, including developments in Iran. Minister Abdelatty emphasized the importance of de-escalation and reducing tensions in the region. He expressed Egypt's full support for all efforts contributing to supporting dialogue and resolving all concerns through diplomatic and political channels, aiming to enhance regional security and stability for all peoples in the region.

He stressed the need for regional and international efforts to reach a peaceful and consensual resolution to the Iranian nuclear issue that addresses the concerns of all parties, noting that dialogue remains the primary option to avoid any escalation in the region.

Regarding developments in Sudan, Minister Abdelatty stressed the importance of quickly reaching a humanitarian ceasefire to pave the ground for a comprehensive ceasefire and launching an inclusive Sudanese-led political process. He emphasized the priority of establishing safe humanitarian corridors and ensuring unhindered access to humanitarian aid for the Sudanese people. Abdelatty also briefed the British official on Egypt's efforts within the framework of the International Quartet.
