Food Safety Authority Ensures Seamless Operations at Ports During Eidul-Fitr

Cairo: Egypt's National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) announced on Thursday that it is operating at full capacity at ports and customs outlets to ensure the smooth flow of food commodities. This effort is aimed at speeding up inspection procedures to reduce customs clearance times and prevent cargo congestion, particularly for strategic goods, while adhering fully to technical standards to guarantee product quality in the market.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the NFSA emphasized that operations are progressing regularly at all entry points, with the Eidul-Fitr holiday affecting only the first and second days. Work resumed from the third day, in coordination with relevant bodies in the customs clearance system to ensure uninterrupted supply chains.

NFSA Chairman Tarek el-Houby stated that food safety inspectors are working around the clock at ports to facilitate inspection and oversight procedures. This effort supports market stability and prevents potential bottlenecks in the flow of goods. During Eidul-Fitr, the Authority is intensifying its inspection campaigns through expanded teams targeting local markets and food establishments across governorates. This ensures compliance with health requirements and the safety of products, while legal action is taken against violators.

Houby further explained that the oversight system relies on the integration between import inspections at ports and domestic market monitoring. This enhances consumer protection and boosts confidence in food safety in Egypt, aligning with state efforts to facilitate trade and reduce customs clearance times.

He stressed the importance of continual development of the inspection system and improving field performance efficiency to support market stability. The goal is to achieve a balance between speeding up the release of goods and maintaining the highest food safety standards.
