Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty on Saturday reaffirmed the critical need for a ceasefire agreement in Sudan and the initiation of a comprehensive political process that ensures the nation's unity, sovereignty, and stability. Abdelatty's remarks followed a phone conversation with US Senior Advisor for Arab and African Affairs Massad Boulos.
According to State Information Service Egypt, during the call, Abdelatty emphasized the outcomes of his recent visit to Khartoum on November 11. He condemned the severe atrocities and violations in Al Fashir city and called for increased regional and international efforts to support the Sudanese people and their national institutions. He stressed the importance of implementing the joint statement by the quartet on Sudan, which calls for a humanitarian truce as a step toward a sustainable political process.
Additionally, Abdelatty and Boulos addressed the situation in the Great Lakes Region, with Abdelatty expressing Egypt's readiness to partake in efforts to resolve the conflict in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. He reiterated Egypt's support for US-led mediation efforts in Doha, Qatar, aimed at restoring stability and fulfilling the aspirations for peace and prosperity in Africa.
On the topic of Gaza, Abdelatty referred to the November 14 statement supporting a UN Security Council resolution draft on the Palestinian issue. He highlighted the importance of progressing the plan from the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit, which aims to establish an independent Palestinian state to enhance regional peace and stability.
Abdelatty also reviewed preparations for an international conference on early recovery and reconstruction in Gaza, emphasizing the need for regional and international support to implement the recovery and reconstruction plan effectively and alleviate Palestinian humanitarian suffering.
