FM Stresses Gov’t Commitment to Empowering Private Sector, Attracting More FDIs

Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty stressed the importance of the Egyptian government places on empowering the private sector, attracting additional foreign direct investment, and supporting foreign companies operating in Egypt. The remarks came during his meeting on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, with CEO of the Norwegian company Scatec, Terje Pilskog, as part of efforts to strengthen economic cooperation between Egypt and Norway in the renewable energy sector.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty welcomed the level of cooperation with the Norwegian company, noting its role in enhancing bilateral economic and investment ties. He stressed the importance of further expanding cooperation in renewable energy, given the sector's growing strategic significance. The foreign minister commended Scatec's plans to double its investments in Egypt, including the establishment of a wind turbine manufacturing plant to localize the industry.

He also highlighted plans to set up a solar-powered desalination plant, in line with presidential directives to expand the company's operations in the country. Abdelatty praised the company's efforts to form multiple partnerships to implement major projects aimed at localizing industry in Egypt, highlighting the country's strong natural resources, investment opportunities, and skilled human capital.

In this context, Abdelatty reviewed government efforts to support the green economy and ongoing initiatives to transform Egypt into a global hub for green hydrogen production, reaffirming Egypt's full support for Scatec's projects. The foreign minister also voiced Egypt's keenness to enhance trilateral cooperation in Africa to implement development projects, particularly in renewable energy, in line with the country's strategy to strengthen its presence on the continent and support sustainable development.
