FM: Reviving Arab National Security Concept Essential, Foreign Interference Rejected

Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty stressed the need to revive and activate the concept of Arab national security, affirming that Arab security is an integral part of Egypt's own national security.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty, speaking at a press conference held Tuesday, March 10, 2026, by Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli, in the presence of several ministers, said Egypt is working with sisterly Arab countries on initiatives aimed at strengthening the framework of Arab national security.

He noted that these efforts include revisiting proposals endorsed at previous Arab summits, most notably the 2015 Sharm El-Sheikh Summit, including the idea of establishing a joint Arab force, stressing that Arab security can only be achieved through cooperation and solidarity among Arab states.

The minister stressed that any regional security arrangements imposed by external parties are unacceptable, asserting that Arab and regional countries must have the primary and most influential voice in shaping such arrangements.

He referred in this regard to the binding resolution adopted by the Council of Arab Foreign Ministers in Cairo last September, which emphasized the need to respect state sovereignty, refrain from interference in internal affairs, and reject militias or armed groups operating outside state authority.

Abdelatty further stressed that even in cases where national institutions are weak, they must be strengthened, noting that reinforcing the national state remains the only path to safeguarding collective Arab security.

He added that this framework could also pave the way for enhancing Arab solidarity and potentially establishing a joint Arab force to bolster regional stability.

The minister concluded by underscoring the universality of nuclear non-proliferation principles, the importance of respecting state sovereignty, and rejecting foreign interference, affirming that the Arab perspective must be the decisive factor in shaping future regional arrangements.
