FM Presents Egypt’s Vision for Security, Development in Africa

Moscow: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty presented Egypt’s vision for security and development in Africa during the second ministerial conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum, which he co-chaired with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Angolan Foreign Minister Tete Antonio.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty highlighted that the forum underscores the strong historical ties between Africa and Russia, alongside the growing opportunities for cooperation based on mutual respect and shared interests. He emphasized the importance of international stability, which relies on respect for sovereignty, non-interference, and political solutions to conflicts. Abdelatty advocated for Africa to play a stronger role in shaping a fairer global order.

He reiterated the need for reforming the UN Security Council and international financial institutions to better cater to African priorities, particularly in development financing and technology transfer. Abdelatty suggested that economic cooperation should concentrate on infrastructure, energy, food security, and technology, aligning with Africa’s development agenda.

The Foreign Minister stated that development is unattainable without security and stability, emphasizing Egypt’s support for national ownership, strong state institutions, and African-led solutions. He called for comprehensive approaches to conflicts that integrate development, education, healthcare, and counterterrorism, alongside sustainable funding for African peace and post-conflict reconstruction efforts.

Abdelatty also addressed regional challenges, such as securing a ceasefire in Gaza, supporting political solutions in Sudan and Libya, stabilizing Somalia, protecting Red Sea security and freedom of navigation, and tackling instability in the Sahel and eastern Congo. He reaffirmed Egypt’s opposition to unilateral actions in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea that could jeopardize regional stability, while confirming Egypt’s dedication to cooperating with Nile Basin countries and safeguarding its water security under international law.

He concluded by expressing Egypt’s willingness to expand cooperation with Russia through joint and trilateral projects in Africa, particularly in infrastructure, renewable energy, and capacity building.
