FM Meets with New President of National Council for Human Rights

Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty received Ambassador Ahmed Ehab Gamal El-Din, the newly appointed President of the National Council for Human Rights, on Tuesday, March 24, 2026. Abdelatty extended his congratulations to the Council's President on assuming his new position, expressing his aspiration to strengthen cooperation with the Council in its new formation, which includes a distinguished group of competent and independent figures.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the Minister of Foreign Affairs praised the pivotal role played by the Council in promoting and protecting human rights in Egypt. He highlighted the national efforts undertaken in recent years under the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to advance the human rights system. Abdelatty emphasized the importance of continuing the implementation of the National Human Rights Strategy and beginning preparations for the second national strategy to further promote and disseminate a culture of human rights.

The Minister also discussed Egypt's active engagement within its membership in the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva for the period 2026-2028, reaffirming Egypt's firm commitment to promoting and protecting human rights at both national and international levels. He pointed out the comprehensive initiatives implemented by the Egyptian government to enhance economic, social, and cultural rights, prioritizing women, youth, children, and persons with disabilities. Additionally, he mentioned the launch of the National Dialogue aimed at integrating diverse perspectives and ideas from all segments of society, as well as the continued activation of the Presidential Pardon Committee.

Abdelatty reiterated his commitment to consulting with the National Council for Human Rights and all stakeholders during the process of preparing the second National Human Rights Strategy, encouraging them to submit proposals and recommendations to be incorporated into the new strategy.
