Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty Saturday 14/2/2026 said that Egypt attaches great importance to the health sector that is deemed a fundamental pillar for achieving sustainable development in Africa. He affirmed Egypt's readiness to transfer its leading expertise in health and pharmaceuticals, support capacity-building programs, and enhance responses to emergency health challenges in the African continent.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the top Egyptian diplomat made the remark during a meeting with Director-General of the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) Jean Kaseya on the sidelines of the African Union Summit. The meeting discussed strategies to improve collaborative efforts in strengthening health systems and pharmaceutical security across the continent.
During the meeting, Abdelatty emphasized Egypt's commitment to enhancing its partnership with Africa CDC, highlighting current cooperation in supplying medical supplies and vaccines. He noted that such continental integration is vital for improving the efficiency and sustainability of African health systems in the face of crises.
Abdelatty highlighted significant Egyptian milestones in the health sector, including the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA), which is the first in Africa to achieve World Health Organization (WHO) Maturity Level 3 for medicines and vaccines regulation, with progress toward Level 4. He emphasized Egypt's readiness to utilize this expertise to standardize African health criteria, boost product reliability, and accelerate sustainable local production.
For his part, Kaseya expressed appreciation for Egypt's active role in supporting public health across the continent. He affirmed aspiration to improve joint cooperation in the upcoming period to bolster health security across Africa.
