Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty received a phone call from Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein to discuss recent developments in the region and the implications of the dangerous military escalation.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty highlighted the seriousness of the current situation in the Middle East, warning that continued military operations threaten to drag the entire region into widespread chaos. He emphasized the urgent necessity to de-escalate tensions and prioritize diplomatic solutions to prevent the expansion of the conflict and its potentially catastrophic security and humanitarian consequences.
The discussions also addressed the direct impact of the escalation on Iraq, with an emphasis on preserving Iraq's stability, unity, and territorial integrity. Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's support for the Iraqi government's efforts to assert sovereignty and protect the welfare of its people.
Both sides exchanged views and agreed on joint coordination between Egypt and Iraq regarding the outcomes of the regular Arab League Council meeting, which is scheduled to be held virtually at the ministerial level on March 29.
