Cairo: Dr. Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates had on Sunday, March 1, 2026, a phone call with Mr. Fuad Hussein, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq, to follow up on the successive developments and the serious military escalation witnessed in the region.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Minister Abdelatty emphasized the necessity of concerted regional and international efforts to de-escalate and contain the current situation, warning of the catastrophic repercussions of expanding the scope of the conflict.
Dr. Abdelatty reaffirmed that prioritizing political and diplomatic solutions is the only path to prevent the region from sliding into comprehensive chaos, whose destructive effects would impact the security, stability, and resources of all the region's peoples. He stressed that there is no alternative to dialogue in addressing the current crises.
Minister Abdelatty further condemned the targeting of the territory of the Republic of Iraq and the Arab states in the Gulf, as well as the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, affirming a categorical rejection of any violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Arab states. In this regard, Dr. Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's full solidarity with Iraq and all Arab states in confronting these threats, underscoring the importance of respecting the principles of good neighborliness and adhering to international law to preserve regional peace and security.
