Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates Dr. Badr Abdelatty received a phone call on Saturday, February 28, 2026, from Ms. Oana ?oiu, Romania's Minister of Foreign Affairs, to discuss the serious military escalation developments in the region.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Minister Abdelatty provided a briefing of the current situation and reviewed Egypt's position, which calls for prioritizing diplomatic solutions. He emphasized that this is essential to prevent the expansion of the conflict and the region's slide into a spiral of escalation that would be difficult to contain, thereby threatening regional and international peace and security.
The Foreign Minister also asserted that military solutions would only lead to further violence and bloodshed. He reaffirmed the need to respect the sovereignty of states, uphold the principle of good neighborliness, exercise the utmost restraint during this sensitive phase, and prioritize the language of dialogue and diplomacy.
He further underscored the importance of intensifying regional and international efforts to contain the escalation and prevent the widening of tensions. At the conclusion of the call, both sides agreed on the significance of continuing efforts to de-escalate tensions.
