Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty discussed on Monday, March 23, 2026, with Palestinian Vice President Hussein Al-Sheikh over phone developments in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip and their implications for security and stability in the occupied Palestinian territories, including the escalating violence by settlers in the West Bank.
According to State Information Service Egypt, during the contact, the foreign minister reiterated Egypt's condemnation of the rise in settler attacks against Palestinian civilians and their property, emphasizing that such acts constitute a blatant violation of international law and undermine prospects for peace.
He stressed the importance of moving forward with the full implementation of the second phase of the plan of US President Donald Trump, including the deployment of an international stabilization force and the entry of the Gaza Management Committee into the sector to begin its work, paving the way for the Palestinian Authority to fully assume its responsibilities.
The foreign minister also highlighted the need to maintain regional unity between the Gaza Strip and the West Bank and resist all displacement schemes aimed at liquidating the Palestinian cause, noting this as a cornerstone of the two-state solution.
Both sides agreed on the importance of not diverting attention from daily violations in Gaza and the West Bank, intensified by the current regional and international focus on developments linked to Iran, and called for increased international efforts to halt escalation, protect civilians, promote dialogue and diplomacy, and create conditions for resuming the political process toward a just and comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian issue.
For his part, Sheikh expressed appreciation for Egypt's continued role in supporting the Palestinian cause and stressed the importance of ongoing coordination and consultation in the coming period.
