FM: Continued Military Escalation Will Worsen Situation, Expand Regional Conflict

Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty, emphasized during a phone call on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, with Irish Minister for Foreign Affairs, Trade and Defense Helen McEntee, that the continued military escalation will lead to a worsening of conditions and an expansion of the conflict in the region, requiring concerted regional and international efforts to accelerate the containment of the current crisis.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the two ministers discussed the latest regional developments and the dangerous implications of military escalation on the security and stability of the region. Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, Official Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry praised the level of bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and their mutual keenness on continuing coordination and consultation on the various regional and international issues.

Abdelatty provided an assessment of the rapid developments in the region, stressing the need to exert efforts to reduce escalation and prioritize political solutions. He also emphasized the necessity of respecting the sovereignty of states and the principle of good neighborliness, expressing full rejection of targeting the security, safety and sovereignty of sisterly Arab states, underscoring the need for restraint during this critical stage and prioritizing the path of diplomacy.

Furthermore, Abdelatty voiced appreciation for Ireland's decision to maintain its travel advice for Egypt unchanged, noting that this reflects the security and stability enjoyed by Egypt. For her part, the Irish Foreign Minister valued the tireless efforts made by Egypt to support security and stability in the region.

The two ministers agreed on the necessity of pressing ahead with coordination and consultation within the framework of close relations binding the two countries and supporting all efforts aimed at reducing escalation in the region. They affirmed that the diplomatic path is the only way to avoid the risks of sliding into further instability and to prevent the expansion of the conflict.
