Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty emphasized that any successful resolution to Libya’s crisis must be based on consensus among Libyan parties and support for United Nations efforts, without foreign interference. Abdelatty made these remarks during a trilateral meeting with the foreign ministers of Algeria and Tunisia, Ahmed Attaf and Mohamed Ali Nafti, on the sidelines of the second ministerial forum of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Foreign Ministry spokesman Tamim Khallaf stated that the meeting focused on developments in Libya, with Abdelatty reiterating Egypt’s support for a comprehensive political settlement led by Libyans. This settlement should be rooted in full national ownership, aiming to end divisions and restore security and stability. Abdelatty highlighted the necessity of unifying Libya’s executive institutions and fostering an environment conducive to conducting simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections, which are essential for renewing legitimacy and building stable institutions.
Abdelatty also outlined the need for a stable security environment, which includes the withdrawal of all foreign forces, foreign fighters, and mercenaries from Libyan territory to preserve Libya’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. The three ministers agreed to maintain close coordination and consultation within the trilateral mechanism involving Egypt, Algeria, and Tunisia. This collaboration stems from their responsibility as neighboring states to support the Libyan people in achieving their aspirations for stability and development and to enhance regional security.
