FM Affirms Egypt’s Full Support for Security and Stability Efforts in South Sudan

Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptians Abroad Badr Abdelatty affirmed Egypt's full support for efforts to achieve security and stability in South Sudan, highlighting the deep ties between the two countries and advancing the joint interests of the two brotherly peoples. This declaration was made during Abdelatty's meeting with Monday Semaya Kumba, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of South Sudan. The meeting addressed developments in bilateral relations and ways to strengthen ongoing cooperation between the two nations.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the two ministers emphasized the importance of building on the outcomes of the South Sudanese Foreign Minister's visit to Cairo in December 2025, as well as the meeting between the two countries' foreign ministers on the sidelines of the African Summit in Addis Ababa. Key discussions included the Nile River issue, where Abdelatty stressed the importance of enhancing cooperation and achieving mutual benefit among Nile Basin countries. He highlighted adherence to international law, particularly the principles of prior notification, consultation, no harm, and the rejection of unilateral actions.

Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's support for the Nile Basin Initiative and the ongoing consultative process to restore inclusivity. He emphasized the importance of continued coordination with South Sudan to strengthen prospects for consensus, preserve the river's sustainability, protect its environment, and maximize its resources.
