Cairo: Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk announced that 18.5 billion Egyptian Pounds has been disbursed since the launch of the social protection package in February 2026 to support eligible beneficiaries and the most vulnerable groups. This announcement was made during the minister's review of the executive status of the social protection package.
According to State Information Service Egypt, in a statement issued on Monday, March 16, 2026, the minister detailed that six billion Egyptian Pounds have been allocated to provide an additional cash support of EGP 400 to 10 million families registered on ration cards. An extra allocation of EGP 1.6 billion has been directed as cash support for all beneficiaries of the 'Takaful and Karama' program, the Child Allowance, and Rural Pioneer women.
The minister further stated that EGP 3 billion has been earmarked as 'additional support' for state-funded medical treatment and for the treatment of critical cases registered on waiting lists. Furthermore, EGP 4.3 billion has been disbursed to expedite the completion of the first phase of the Decent Life initiative, targeting the completion of 1,000 projects.
Additionally, EGP 3.5 billion has been allocated to the Egyptian Sugar and Integrated Industries Company to settle the dues of sugarcane farmers, demonstrating a comprehensive approach to addressing various sectors and needs within the social protection package.
