Egypt’s Ambassador and Mauritania’s National Assembly Speaker Discuss Legislative Cooperation


Nouakchott: Egyptian Ambassador in Nouakchott Ahmed Tayea and Speaker of the National Assembly of Mauritania Mohamed Bamba Ould Meguett convened to explore avenues for enhancing legislative cooperation between Egypt and Mauritania.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting was part of ongoing efforts to build on the outcomes from the 2nd session of the Egyptian-Mauritanian Committee. This session was co-chaired by the foreign ministers of both countries in Nouakchott on May 27, following the Egyptian foreign minister’s visit to Mauritania on May 26-27. The discussions aimed at further strengthening the ties established during these diplomatic engagements.

Ambassador Tayea attended the launch ceremony of the Mauritanian-Egyptian parliamentary friendship group, which was also attended by Mauritania’s Minister of Culture, Arts, Communication, and Relations with Parliament, Al-Hussein Ould Medou. Tayea expressed optimism that the creation of this group would play a significant role in promoting
parliamentary cooperation between the two nations.

Minister Medou acknowledged Egypt’s influential role in the Arab world and praised Khaled El-Enani’s success in the UNESCO Executive Board elections, marking a historic achievement as the first Egyptian and Arab to lead the UN agency.

In reflection of the strong bilateral ties, the head of the Mauritanian-Egyptian parliamentary friendship group reiterated the robust relationship between the leaders of both countries and affirmed Mauritania’s support for Egypt’s positions on Arab issues, notably the Palestinian cause.
