Egyptian Journalist Hadeer Elhadary Wins Prestigious UNCA Award for Climate Reporting

New york: Egyptian environmental journalist Hadeer Elhadary has received the United Nations Correspondents Association (UNCA) Award for Climate Change Reporting, under the Prince Albert II of Monaco and UNCA Global Prize for Climate Change. She stands out as the only Arab journalist among this year’s winners.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Elhadary was honored for her feature published in Al-Ahram Weekly, titled ‘Threats to Egypt’s Coral Reefs.’ The story was based on her on-the-ground coverage of the United Nations biodiversity conference held in Nice, France, and was published on 27 June 2025. Elhadary received the Bronze Medal during the 29th UNCA Awards Ceremony, organized at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

Ambassador Isabelle Picco, Permanent Representative of the Principality of Monaco to the United Nations, presented the award. The ceremony saw attendance from senior UN officials and notable public figures, including Annalena Baerbock, President of the UN General Assembly and former German Minister of Foreign Affairs; actor and environmental activist Javier Bardem; and Massimo Bottura, UN Environment Programme Goodwill Ambassador and advocate for the Sustainable Development Goals.

This accomplishment marks Elhadary’s tenth journalism award, following previous recognitions from both national and international institutions, further underscoring her impact in climate and environmental reporting.
