Egyptian Foreign Minister Meets Turkish President, Delivers El-Sisi’s Message

Ankara: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty met Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, and handed him a message from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on ways to strengthen bilateral relations.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the message covered preparations for the second High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council meeting, to be co-chaired by the two leaders in Cairo in 2026. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tamim Khalaf said President Sisi's message also expressed condolences over the victims of the Turkish military plane crash and reaffirmed Egypt's solidarity with Turkey in this difficult time.

Abdelatty highlighted the positive momentum in Egyptian-Turkish relations over the past two years, underscoring the importance of building on the outcomes of the Joint Planning Group meeting held earlier between the two foreign ministers. The discussions covered cooperation across multiple fields and preparations for the upcoming Strategic Cooperation Council meeting, as well as plans to convene a business forum to enhance investment partnerships between Egyptian and Turkish companies.

The talks also addressed economic cooperation, with Abdelatty stressing Egypt's commitment to maintaining an attractive environment for Turkish investors. He pointed to opportunities arising from Egypt's 2024-2030 National Investment Strategy and ongoing legislative and fiscal reforms, with the shared goal of increasing bilateral trade to $15 billion within five years.

The meeting also discussed developments in Gaza. Abdelatty praised the close coordination between Egypt, Turkey, Qatar, and the United States that led to the Sharm El Sheikh Peace Agreement, emphasizing the need to build on it to ensure unimpeded humanitarian aid and to pave the way for reconstruction efforts.

He briefed Erdogan on preparations for the upcoming Cairo International Conference on Early Recovery and Reconstruction of Gaza, expressing Egypt's hope for active Turkish participation in the event to support international efforts to ease the suffering of the Palestinian people.

The two sides also reviewed ongoing consultations regarding a UN Security Council resolution on Gaza and an international stabilization force, reaffirming the importance of maintaining the territorial unity of the West Bank and Gaza. Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's stance on the need to create a political horizon leading to the establishment of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital - the only guarantee for lasting peace and regional stability.

The talks further covered the situation in Sudan and Libya with Abdelatty condemning the atrocities in El-Fasher, stressing the urgency of a political settlement that preserves Sudan's unity and institutions. He reaffirmed Egypt's unwavering support for a Libyan-led political dialogue as the only path to stability.

On the Eastern Mediterranean, the minister underscored the importance of regional cooperation to safeguard security and stability. President Erdogan asked Abdelatty to convey his greetings to President Sisi, expressing eagerness to deepen bilateral coordination and elevate cooperation to new levels. He also confirmed his intention to visit Cairo soon to co-chair the next session of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council, reiterating Turkey's goal to raise bilateral trade to $15 billion over the next five years.

The Foreign Ministry said the meeting reflected both countries' shared commitment to continued coordination and partnership across all fields, strengthening Egyptian-Turkish relations in a way that serves the interests of their peoples and promotes regional peace and stability.
