Cairo: Minister Plenipotentiary Dr. Abdel Aziz El-Sherif, Head of the Egyptian Commercial Service (ECS), held discussions with Mr. Charlie Garnett, the British Trade Attaché in Cairo. This meeting precedes a forthcoming visit by the UK Prime Minister to Cairo, which is expected to significantly enhance Egyptian-British relations and elevate them to a strategic partnership, opening new avenues for cooperation across different levels.
According to State Information Service Egypt, El-Sherif highlighted that Egyptian-British relations are experiencing growing momentum and development in various economic and investment sectors. Both parties are eager to leverage this momentum to boost trade and encourage British investments in Egypt. Currently, the trade exchange volume between the two countries is approximately 2.9 billion pounds sterling, with Egyptian exports at 1.4 billion pounds sterling and imports from the UK at about 1.5 billion pounds sterling.

gyptian export base in the British market, given the strong export capabilities of Egyptian companies. He also noted that British investments in Egypt reached approximately 20.6 billion pounds sterling by the end of February 2025, involving 2,103 British companies across multiple sectors. This figure is anticipated to grow, particularly with the expected announcement of upgraded relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership.
Mr. Charlie Garnett emphasized that Egypt holds significant importance as a trading partner for the UK. There is a rising interest from British companies in boosting trade and investments in Egypt, driven by the country’s economic reforms and emerging opportunities.
