Cairo: Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Affairs Badr Abdelatty and Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi recently engaged in a phone conversation to discuss regional developments and explore avenues for strengthening bilateral relations between Egypt and Jordan.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the ministers emphasized the historic and brotherly ties between the two nations, expressing a mutual commitment to enhancing cooperation in the economic and investment sectors. They highlighted the importance of leveraging existing coordination mechanisms to benefit both countries. Abdelatty and Safadi also underscored the necessity of adhering to the ceasefire agreement and fully implementing its terms as outlined in US President Donald Trump’s plan.
The conversation also touched upon the urgent need for sustainable humanitarian aid delivery to the Gaza Strip. The ministers announced the second phase of the agreement, which includes the formation of a Palestinian technocratic committee to manage the Strip, deployment of an international stability force, and laying the groundwork for early recovery and reconstruction efforts.
Both officials reiterated the significance of maintaining the territorial unity of Palestine’s West Bank and Gaza and emphasized linking stability efforts to a political horizon that aims to achieve a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution. They expressed concerns over illegal Israeli measures in the occupied West Bank, which they warned could undermine efforts toward de-escalation and the realization of peace.
Regarding Syria and Lebanon, Abdelatty and Safadi stressed the need for security in Syria while upholding its sovereignty and territorial integrity. They condemned Israeli aggression on Lebanon and affirmed their support for Lebanon’s security, stability, and national institutions.
In addition, the ministers expressed their rejection of Israel’s recognition of Somaliland and reaffirmed support for the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia. They described this stance as essential for maintaining stability in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region.
Furthermore, the discussion highlighted support for de-escalation efforts in Yemen, aiming to foster a Yemeni-Yemeni dialogue that ensures the nation’s security and meets the aspirations of its people.
