Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty held a phone conversation with Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi to discuss regional efforts aimed at de-escalation and the central role of diplomacy in restoring security and stability.
According to State Information Service Egypt, during the call, the ministers reaffirmed their condemnation of Iranian attacks against Jordan and the brotherly Gulf states, stressing full Arab solidarity in safeguarding regional security and the importance of activating collective Arab action to address shared economic and political challenges. They underscored that halting Iranian aggression, respecting international law, and preserving state sovereignty are essential to ensuring a secure and stable regional future.
The discussion also covered preparations for the upcoming regular session of the Arab League Council at the level of foreign ministers, scheduled for the end of March. The ministers underlined the session's importance in formulating a unified Arab stance to confront shared security and political challenges, as well as the dangerous escalation currently affecting the region.
Regarding Lebanon, they expressed support for Lebanon's security, stability, and sovereignty over its entire territory, endorsing the Lebanese government's decision to confine arms to the state. They condemned Israeli aggression against Lebanon and Israel's policies in the region. The ministers further stressed that international focus on the conflict with Iran should not overshadow efforts to address the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
They called for an end to Israel's illegal measures in the West Bank, which undermine prospects for achieving a just peace. The two ministers also renewed their condemnation of Israeli settler attacks on Palestinians, describing them as blatant violations of international law and a serious escalation requiring coordinated international action. They also denounced Israel's continued restrictions on the right to worship for Muslims and Christians in the occupied Palestinian territories, including the prevention of worshippers from accessing their religious sites.
