Brussels: Egyptian Ambassador to the European Union and Belgium Ahmed Abu Zeid asserted that the European Union is committed to supporting the Palestinian cause. He emphasized the EU's role as the largest and primary donor to the Palestinians for many years and its readiness to contribute to early recovery efforts and the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Abu Zeid, in an interview with Al Qahera News channel, highlighted the ongoing communication between Egypt and the European Union, with nearly daily coordination on supporting the Palestinian cause, the people of Gaza, and the implementation of peace plans. He noted the Rafah border crossing's recent opening, with an EU mission present to facilitate aid and citizen passage into Gaza.
Abu Zeid mentioned Egypt's collaboration with the Gaza Strip through various projects and initiatives under discussion with the European Union to support the Palestinian people. He also spoke about the strategic partnership between Egypt and the EU, which has strengthened cooperation and coordination.
The ambassador pointed to a photo exhibition organized by UNRWA in collaboration with the EU, documenting the humanitarian suffering of Palestinians in Gaza. The exhibition, held in Brussels, attracted a large turnout, underscoring the Palestinian cause's significance in European public consciousness.
Abu Zeid explained that Brussels supports UNRWA's presence in Palestinian territories and its humanitarian and political roles. He added that Belgian support extends beyond political stances, ensuring the agency's continued presence and mission to provide essential services amid challenging conditions.
He stressed the importance of international community support for UNRWA during this critical time, as the agency faces immense pressure and attempts to undermine its role.
