Egypt Welcomes US-Brokered Ceasefire Agreement Between Thailand and Cambodia


Kuala lumpur: Egypt welcomed the agreement reached between Thailand and Cambodia on a ceasefire, under U.S. auspices, on the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Egypt affirmed the importance of this step as part of efforts to promote regional security, stability, and cooperation, and values the sincere efforts of U.S. President Donald Trump to reach an agreement to resolve the conflict through peaceful means.



According to State Information Service Egypt, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry released a statement emphasizing the need to resort to diplomatic solutions and constructive dialogue to settle disputes. The statement reiterated Egypt’s support for all initiatives and efforts aimed at resolving conflicts through peaceful means.



The old border conflict between the two Asian kingdoms re-broke out on July 24, 2025, after a barrage of rockets was launched by Cambodia on the neighboring country Thailand. Relations between the two neighboring Southeast Asian countries have deteriorated sharply since May, when a Cambodian soldier was killed in an armed clash over another small strip of land claimed by both nations.
