Egypt Successfully Opens Vietnamese Market for Onion and Garlic Exports

Cairo: Egypt has officially succeeded in establishing the Vietnamese market as a new destination for its exports of fresh onions and garlic, as announced by Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouq. This move aligns with the ministry’s strategy to broaden the reach of Egyptian agricultural exports into Asian markets.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the announcement was made ahead of the upcoming export season, implementing the political leadership’s directives to explore new international markets and foster support for Egyptian farmers and exporters. The Ministry of Agriculture issued a statement revealing that the minister received a joint report from Ahmed Ossam, Head of the Agricultural Services and Follow-up Sector, and Mohamed El-Mansi, Head of the Central Administration of Agricultural Quarantine. The report highlighted the concerted efforts of the Egyptian Agricultural Quarantine, which, through over two years of technical coordination with the Egyptian embassy in Hanoi, secured the Vietnamese approval of Egypt’s phytosanitary measures.

Mohamed El-Mansi announced that Technical Circular No. (4) of 2026 has been circulated among inspectors and exporters to ensure adherence to all required international standards. He further noted that the opening of the Vietnamese market is anticipated to enhance Egypt’s export volume of onions and garlic, capitalizing on the strong reputation of Egyptian products and their compliance with international quality specifications.

The Agricultural Quarantine’s official data indicates a rising global demand for Egyptian onions and garlic. By the end of 2025, Egypt exported approximately 288,000 tons of fresh onions and 45,000 tons of fresh garlic to numerous countries worldwide, reflecting the growing market for these products.
