Egypt, Russia FMs Highlight Strategic Partnership, Stress De-escalation Efforts

Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov underscored the close ties between Egypt and Russia and the steady progress in various areas of cooperation, particularly in the economic and trade fields.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the two sides held phone talks on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, within the framework of ongoing coordination and consultation between the two countries on bilateral relations as well as regional and international issues of mutual concern. Both ministers affirmed their pride in the strategic partnership binding the two nations, describing it as the overarching framework governing bilateral cooperation across all sectors.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Tamim Khallaf said the two sides also discussed rapid regional developments, with Abdelatty stressing the importance of de-escalation and containing rising tensions in the region. Abdelatty reviewed Egypt's efforts to help create conducive conditions for the continuation of negotiations between the United States and Iran and to advance toward a consensual and peaceful settlement that serves the interests of the parties concerned and addresses issues related to the Iranian nuclear file, in a way that spares the region further escalation and tension.
