Egypt Reaffirms Unwavering Support for Gulf Security, Calls for De-Escalation in Region

Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, Egypt's firm and steadfast support for the security and stability of the Gulf region, terming it an integral part of Egypt's national security. The remarks came during a meeting with Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jasem Mohamed AlBudaiwi during Abdelatty's ongoing Arab tour. Abdelatty stressed Egypt's full solidarity-as leadership, government and people-with GCC states in confronting regional security challenges, reiterating Cairo's rejection of any external threats or interference that undermine the sovereignty of Gulf nations or the resources of their peoples.According to State Information Service Egypt, the two sides reviewed the rapidly evolving developments in the region, while the minister warned of the grave consequences of continued military escalation. He underscored the importance of intensifying efforts to de-escalate tensions and pr ioritize diplomatic solutions to prevent the region from sliding into widespread instability. The minister also highlighted the need to maintain close coordination between Egypt and GCC countries to contain successive crises and safeguard Arab national security.Regarding economic issues, Abdelatty emphasized the importance of propelling economic and investment cooperation between Egypt and GCC states, pointing out the success of the first Egypt-GCC Trade and Investment Forum held in Cairo in November 2025 and calling for its regular convening to further strengthen mutual interests. For his part, AlBudaiwi voiced deep appreciation for Egypt's pivotal role as a cornerstone of stability in the Arab region, commending Cairo's ongoing diplomatic efforts to ease tensions and defend the interests of Arab nations at international events.
