Egypt, Germany Sign Minutes of 7th Egyptian-German Joint Economic Committee

Cairo: Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Hassan El-Khatib and Parliamentary State Secretary at Germany's Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy Stefan Rouenhoff signed the minutes of the seventh meeting of the Egyptian-German Joint Economic Committee. The committee aims to advance bilateral economic, trade, and industrial cooperation between the two nations.

According to State Information Service Egypt, both sides reaffirmed the long-standing partnership between Egypt and Germany, emphasizing the committee's role as a crucial platform for dialogue, priority-setting, and follow-up. The partnership is further enhanced by engagement with the business community through the Trade Forum.

Discussions during the committee meeting focused on enhancing cooperation in various sectors, including trade, investment, industry, energy, and economic development. Bilateral trade between Egypt and Germany reached pound 5.5 billion in 2024. Both parties highlighted potential opportunities in logistics, manufacturing, green energy, waste recycling, and the petrochemical and food industries.

The Egyptian representatives encouraged German companies to take advantage of Egypt's trade agreements with Africa and the Arab region, as well as the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership. The two nations also agreed to exchange expertise in supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), entrepreneurship, digitalization, and technology transfer.

Furthermore, the meeting explored investment prospects in advanced engineering, renewable energy, industrial digital transformation, and green hydrogen, particularly within the Suez Canal Economic Zone. Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to cooperation in energy transition and green industrial transformation.
