Egypt Emerges as Industrial Hub for Exporting “Health” Globally

Cairo: Egyptian Society for Dietary Supplement Exportation and Production (ESDS) Head Mohamed Anwar Saturday 7/2/2026 affirmed that Egypt has transitioned from a mere consumer of medicines to an advanced industrial base. He added that the country is now exporting "health" to the world through one of the fastest-growing sectors within the healthcare industry.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Anwar highlighted that the global market for food supplements exceeded $135 billion in 2024, with annual growth rates between 10-15 percent. Locally, annual spending on supplements in Egypt surpassed 50 billion EGP in 2024, an approximate 30 percent increase over the previous year, Anwar said. He attributed this domestic growth to a shift in public culture following the COVID-19 pandemic, with Vitamin D, Zinc, Magnesium, and immunity boosters becoming essential parts of daily preventive care.

"We are facing an industry that is no longer marginal, but a new economic tributary," Anwar stated. He revealed that Egypt currently has 50 national factories operating at full capacity, producing over 14,000 products registered with the National Food Safety Authority (NFSA), with total annual investments reaching EGP 50 billion.

Egypt's supplement exports currently stand at approximately $100 million, with an ambitious plan to reach $1 billion by 2030, Anwar said, adding that Egyptian products have successfully outperformed competitors from France, China, and India in East and West African markets by following European and Canadian quality standards while keeping prices competitive.
