Cairo: The Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC) has launched its 147th aid convoy to the Gaza Strip, delivering 6,240 tons of urgent humanitarian aid. This effort is part of Egypt's ongoing mission to alleviate the hardships faced by Palestinians due to Israel's relentless military assaults.According to State Information Service Egypt, the convoy is part of the Zad Al-Ezza: From Egypt to Gaza initiative. It transported 3,650 tons of food parcels and flour, 990 tons of medical, relief, and personal hygiene supplies, and 1,690 tons of fuel to support hospitals and essential facilities in Gaza. Additionally, the convoy included critical winter aid to help Palestinians endure harsh weather conditions, comprising 8,890 clothing items, 26,640 blankets, 23,750 mattresses, 6,910 tarpaulins, 25,800 mats, and 4,665 tents. The ERC also facilitated the 20th group of Palestinian arrivals at the Egyptian side of the Rafah border crossing, assisting with entry procedures and distributing 'Return Kits' for those heading back to Ga za. The organization extended its support to Palestinian patients and the injured receiving medical care in Egypt, provided psychological assistance for children, family reunification services, and distributed Suhoor and Iftar meals during Ramadan. This initiative follows the reopening of the Rafah crossing from the Palestinian side earlier this month, marking its first opening since May 2024, thereby enabling Palestinians to access medical care in Egypt and return to Gaza.Despite these humanitarian efforts, Israel continues its severe attacks on Gaza, violating the ceasefire agreement brokered by Egypt, the US, Qatar, and Turkey in October 2025. The ongoing conflict has resulted in the death of over 70,000 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, and injured more than 170,000 others.Since October 2023, Egypt has acted as Gaza's main support channel, delivering over 800,000 tons of humanitarian aid, which constitutes about 70 percent of all aid sent to the region, supported by more than 65,000 ERC volunteers.
