Cairo: Egypt strongly condemned the escalation of Israeli forces' aggression against Lebanon, including their deliberate and systematic targeting of vital civilian facilities and infrastructure such as bridges connecting Lebanese regions. This represents a flagrant violation of Lebanese sovereignty and a serious breach of international law and the UN Charter.
According to State Information Service Egypt, in a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates, Egypt asserted its steadfast position in supporting Lebanon's unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. The statement also expressed Egypt's full solidarity with Lebanese institutions during this critical period and called for strict adherence to Security Council Resolution 1701 in its entirety to ensure the empowerment of Lebanese institutions.
The statement further emphasized the need for enabling the Lebanese army to assume its responsibilities and assert its sovereignty over all Lebanese territory, placing all weapons under its exclusive control. It highlighted that Israel's deliberate destruction of Lebanon's infrastructure represents a blatant policy of collective punishment.
Egypt stressed the urgent need for the international community, particularly the United Nations Security Council, to take immediate action to deter Israel's unchecked practices. This, according to the statement, is essential to prevent further deterioration of the security and humanitarian situation and to spare Lebanon from the danger of further instability.
