Egypt, Comoros Foreign Ministers Discuss Middle East De-escalation Efforts

Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty received a phone call on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, from Comoros Foreign Minister Mohamed Mbae to discuss developments in the Middle East and ongoing efforts to de-escalate regional tensions.

According to State Information Service Egypt, during the call, Abdelatty briefed his Comorian counterpart on the outcomes of Egypt's intensive contacts and meetings with regional and international parties aimed at containing the situation and reducing escalation, as well as the results of his recent Gulf tour. He stressed the need to prioritize diplomatic solutions to avoid the region sliding into broader chaos, underscoring the importance of an immediate halt to all forms of military escalation that threaten regional peace and security.

For his part, the Comoros foreign minister praised Egypt's efforts to contain the situation and advance diplomatic pathways. Both ministers agreed on strongly condemning the Iranian attacks targeting Gulf countries, reiterating their firm rejection of any actions that could undermine regional security and stability or violate the sovereignty of states, and stressing the need to respect international law and the principle of good neighborliness.
