Egypt Applauds Ceasefire Agreement in Eastern DRC

Cairo: Egypt has welcomed the signing of the terms of reference for a ceasefire mechanism between the government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and the M23 movement.

According to State Information Service Egypt, a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates described the development as "a positive and significant step toward de-escalation and trust-building, paving the way for restoring security and stability in eastern DRC."

Egypt reaffirmed its full support for regional and international efforts aimed at sustaining the ceasefire, protecting civilians, and safeguarding the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the DRC. The country also commended the contributions of regional and international parties in facilitating the agreement, emphasizing the importance of its complete and sincere implementation to end hostilities and support national reconciliation and sustainable development.

Additionally, Egypt reiterated its commitment to assisting the African Union and relevant regional mechanisms in achieving lasting peace and stability in the Great Lakes region.
