Egypt and UK Emphasize Need for Joint International Efforts to Safeguard Regional Security

Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty highlighted the necessity for coordinated regional and international efforts to maintain regional security during a telephone discussion with UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper. He emphasized the importance of these efforts in promoting stability and development in the region.According to State Information Service Egypt, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Tamim Khallaf mentioned that Abdelatty underscored the need to build on the positive momentum in Egyptian-British relations. He called for expanded cooperation in political, economic, and trade sectors and urged for increased UK investments in Egypt, in light of recent economic and structural reforms that have improved the investment climate.Khallaf also noted that the discussions included strategies to de-escalate regional tensions. Abdelatty informed his British counterpart about Egypt's diplomatic efforts to manage escalating tensions and stressed the importance of a consen sual resolution to the Iranian nuclear issue that addresses all parties' concerns.Regarding developments in the Gaza Strip, Abdelatty reviewed efforts to implement the second phase of US President Donald Trump's plan. He emphasized the significance of supporting the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, deploying an international stabilization force swiftly, and ensuring humanitarian aid delivery and Israeli withdrawal from the area. These measures, he noted, would facilitate early recovery and reconstruction.The foreign minister also stressed the need for a political framework that meets the Palestinian people's aspirations for an independent state. Additionally, Abdelatty updated the British foreign secretary on the situation in Sudan and Egypt's involvement in the Quartet framework, highlighting the necessity of a humanitarian truce as a precursor to a comprehensive ceasefire and an inclusive, Sudanese-led political process.He emphasized the priority of establishing secure humanitarian c orridors and ensuring unimpeded access for aid to the Sudanese population. Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's commitment to supporting Sudan's sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity, and preservation of its national institutions.
