Egypt and Spain Explore Expanded Collaboration in Education Sector


Cairo: Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr. Abdel Aziz Qansouh recently convened a meeting with key Spanish representatives to discuss potential enhancements in educational collaboration between Egypt and Spain. The gathering included the Spanish Ambassador to Egypt, lvaro Iranzo Guti©rrez, along with the CEO of IE University, Mr. Diego de Alc¡zar, and the University’s Head, Dr. Manuel Mu±iz. The meeting unfolded at the Ministry’s headquarters located in the New Administrative Capital.



According to State Information Service Egypt, Dr. Qansouh underscored the robust bilateral relations between the two nations and highlighted the importance of capitalizing on the current momentum in their partnership. This sentiment is bolstered by the strong political ties following the recent visit of the Spanish monarch to Egypt. Dr. Qansouh emphasized Egypt’s commitment to broadening international academic and research partnerships, underscoring the significance of hosting branches of prestigious global universities as part of this initiative.



Further discussions revealed the ongoing developments in scientific research and innovation partnerships between Egypt and Spain, with an emphasis on collaborations through European programs. Dr. Qansouh pointed out Spain’s involvement in the Egypt-EU Research and Innovation Week and the implementation of joint development initiatives, showcasing the potential for further expansion in these areas.



The minister also identified considerable opportunities to advance cooperation in applied education and technical training, drawing on Spain’s experience in dual education systems that align education with industry needs. He mentioned the prospects for joint projects under European programs such as Erasmus+ and Horizon Europe, as well as regional cooperation initiatives in the Mediterranean.



Dr. Qansouh reiterated the Ministry’s dedication to advancing joint research projects, promoting technology transfer, and fostering innovation. He stressed the necessity of linking institutional collaborations with Egyptian universities to enhance integration and leverage scientific expertise fully.



In conclusion, Dr. Qansouh reviewed the Egyptian state’s efforts to foster an innovation-friendly environment within universities. This includes the expansion of technology parks, business incubators, and support for startups, which collectively aim to position universities as pivotal engines of economic growth.
