Cairo: Egypt’s Minister of Local Development and Acting Minister of Environment Manal Awad signed a memorandum of understanding with Slovak Environment Minister Tom¡‚¬¦¡ Taraba to enhance technical cooperation on environmental protection and climate change.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the agreement was signed on the sidelines of the 8th Cairo Water Week, which is being held from October 12 to 16. The memorandum of understanding aims to strengthen collaboration between Egypt and Slovakia through the exchange of expertise, knowledge, and technology on an equal and mutually beneficial basis. The priority areas of focus include climate change mitigation and adaptation, environmental planning, and the protection of nature and biodiversity.
The partnership will be actualized through seminars, joint research, exchange visits, and enhanced cooperation between the public and private sectors, with the inclusion of women’s organizations. Oversight for the coordination of these activities will be managed by the Egyptian ministry’s Central Department of Cooperation, International Relations, and Technical Support along with Slovakia’s Department of Foreign Affairs.
Awad emphasized that this agreement is a reflection of Egypt’s efforts to broaden international partnerships to address environmental and climate challenges, aligning with its sustainable development and climate action strategies.
